Update #2: December 2024

Ahoy, Hunters!

We hope you’ve been having a great holiday season!

On our end, we have been busy as always, as the Monster Hunter Wiki project continues to grow and evolve. Currently, the team has been tinkering away at various technical solutions regarding how to display and organize information for maximum visibility and clarity. Parallel to that, recent highlights include:

  • Our second completed community project!
  • A YouTube Channel to archive cutscenes/trailers etc.!
  • A written Guide on how to contribute to the Wiki!

Like last time, let’s look at these individually!

Urgent Quest: Armor Pages!

Since the first community project - where contributors were challenged to hyperfocus on a specific task - was such a success, we chose to launch a second one in mid-december. This one was more technical however: The challenge was to design and iterate on a page layout for armor pieces and armor sets. This was no small task - whatever design would be chosen in the end would have to be able to display stats, decoration slots, skills, materials and armor visuals in a way that was flexible enough to work for every game and intuitive enough to be effortless to use and look up. And of course, it ought to look good on any device! But despite the demands of this project, the team took it on with glee, and after six days of designing, discussing and improving, we had our final Armor Page Template ready to go! Template pages such as these are vital to make the process of filling out the Wiki with information as efficient as possible, and seeing the team take on a more technical challenge like this with enthusiasm and vigor was very validating for everyone involved!

Urgent Quest Complete - here’s to many more!

The Library of Dundorma opens its gates!

The purpose of our Wiki is not just to let you look up the drop rates of that one annoying rare material you need, but to also serve as a collection of information and material from across the Monster Hunter Series. To further that aspect of the project, we have set up a YouTube channel dedicated to archiving game cutscenes, trailers, promotional videos and more, to keep the history of the franchise as alive and curated as its numerical stats. If you head to our new channel - called The Library of Dundorma -, you can already peruse various old game cutscenes, such as Rathians original ecology video, and promotional material such as Monster Hunter’s original E3 2003 trailer. As we collect and archive more and more videos, we hope that this channel will become a convenient place to enjoy and reminisce about Monster Hunters' long and beautiful history. It is still a work-in-progress, as we add new material to it whenever we have the time.

You can find the channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@library-dundorma

Want to help? We now have a guide!

We have been, overall, truly humbled by how many of you have wanted to help build this Wiki, and one of our first big hurdles was how to effectively direct all that enthusiasm and know-how. In service of that, Wiki Faithful Zugzwang has assembled a guide page to get all aspiring contributors started.

You can find the guide here: https://monsterhunterwiki.org/wiki/Help:A_Guide_to_Working_on_MHWiki

This guide covers a broad range of topics, from general questions such as“What is the goal of this Wiki?” to more granular topics like “Here's what needs doing and how you can help”. It even includes breakdowns of what skills we need for each task, so you can easily find the right place for your skillset. The guide also links you to bespoke discord chats for each separate project, so if you want to help with generating pages, you can instantly get chatting with everyone else involved in that specific task. We hope that this guide will serve you well, and can’t wait to see you in the discords!

That is it for today - much work remains to be done, but the Wiki takes on a more defined shape every day. So, if you are interested in helping, definitely join our public discord server at https://discord.gg/6gjNaW74rm .

Thank you all for your support, and have a good holiday season!
See you in 2025!
